The club was very sad to learn that long-time supporter Alan Lake passed away recently aged 82

Alan worked at the Alcan prior to retirement. He supported the club since the 1950s and had a smile and a kind word to say to everyone. He was a member of the Community Benefit Society and fulsome in his praise for the work done by everyone at his beloved club.

Recognising his support for the club his family arranged a surprise 80th Birthday celebration for Alan at the Royston Town game in October 2018 with daughter Donna making a special visit all the way from Dubai. Although not a man for fuss it was evident that Alan really enjoyed that day. The photo shows him with Chairman Phil Lines, Club Ambassador Ronnie Johnson and United mascot, Spencer the Puritan.

Alan’s funeral will be held on 28 January in line with current restrictions. Donations in Alan’s memory for BNTVA may be sent via www.eddfrostanddaughters.co.uk/ or by post c/o: Edd Frost & Daughters Family Funeral Directors, 14 Canada Close, Banbury, OX16 2RT.

BNTVA was set up to gain recognition for the British nuclear test veterans who took part in the British and American nuclear tests after World War Two. This is a charity that means a lot to Alan as he served in the RAF on Christmas Island.

Our sincere condolences go to Alan’s wife Margaret and family.

When these current awful times pass we will of course pay our respects at a game to Alan and others who have passed away.
