Last season was Alvechurch’s first at this level after their promotion and a very commendable campaign they had, reaching the play-offs in which they beat Stourbridge before going out to King’s Lynn Town. The end of the season though saw the departure of their management team of Ian Long and Richard Colwell to Stourbridge. The expected exodus of players followed and it has proven to be a difficult season thus far for the Worcestershire side, currently sitting fourth from bottom of the table with 13 points from 15 games with Darren Byfield, appointed manager in the summer, sacked earlier this week. Dean Holtham, the club's Education programme Director has been appointed interim manager whilst the club searches for a permanent replacement.
As for United, they go into tomorrow’s game in second place in the table and with confidence high after wins in their last two league games, including an impressive clinical second half display at Leiston last Saturday in which they notched four goals in a 5-1 win.
Last season, despite Alvechurch’s impressive season, United were unbeaten against Saturday’s visitors, winning 3-1 at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium on New Year’s Day before drawing 1-1 at Alvechurch on Easter Monday, albeit it took two goals in stoppage time at the end of the second half to beat the down to ten-men Worcestershire side at Banbury.
