A PDF file showing results and goalscorers match by match from season 1933/34 to 2023/24 has been added to the Archive Statistics section of the website.
Compiler Shadders has the following message:
“This covers the period from when the club first played competitive football in the Banbury Junior League in season 1933/34 to the end of last season. The club was formed in 1931 but only played friendlies in its first two seasons of existence.
This completes an over six-month project to make this information, researched on and off over something like forty years but only held in handwritten form, to be publicly available in digital form. Hopefully this information will therefore not be lost over time e.g. should I no longer be here!
Every competitive result of the club in its over 90 years history has been traced. Unfortunately, there are 4 out of the 87 goalscorers in the Junior League season of 1933/34 that, despite extensive research, cannot be found. It is fairly safe to say that these will never be known but every other goalscorer in the club’s history has been identified, albeit unlike appearances these can in certain situations be a matter of opinion especially whether some goals should be recorded as own goals or credited to a player!
A sample of the data that is available for each season is shown below. The sample is of season 1967/68, the season in which legendary United striker Tony Jacques scored a remarkable 62 goals in all competitions, a club record which it is again safe to say is unlikely ever to be broken.
It is hoped further archive statistics projects will be undertaken over the next few years as the club gradually moves closer to its centenary.
Yes, I know I need to get a life!!”
