The side will compete in the Hellenic League Division Two, further strengthening the club’s player pathway and providing a crucial link between the youth and first teams.
The team will be managed by current U18 coaches Carl Ashford and Ben Hayes, who bring a wealth of experience in developing young talent at the club, with 15 youth team players combining for over 30 first-team appearances over the past two seasons. Their appointment ensures continuity and progression for players looking to take the next step in their footballing journey.
A Stronger Player Pathway
The introduction of a Development Team reinforces Banbury United’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent from the town and surrounding areas. The club is dedicated to creating an elite environment where players can develop and flourish, with Development Team players having access to the medical, nutrition, and analytical services used by the first-team.
Manager Simon Hollyhead has fully endorsed the new team, recognising its importance in producing the Banbury United first-team players of the future.
Hollyhead said: “This is a really exciting development for the club, one that we have been keen to integrate over the last few months. It’s a great opportunity for ambitious players who are really serious about being in and around the first team setup as it strengthens the pathway and allows for a natural progression from U18s to the Development Team and ultimately to the first-team.
Carl and Ben have done a great job with our impressive U18 side over the last two seasons, the introduction of the new development team will enable this good work to be continued into the next phase of player development at an open-age level. “
