Under 18s kick start season in emphatic style!

Banbury U18s welcomed local neighbours Kineton Sports to the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium for what was there first home game of the campaign. In the first two matches the side had looked strong defensively, conceding just the one goal - but had failed to find the back of the net, despite creating numerous good chances - the cutting edge was missing, but 90 minutes later, this certainly wasn't the case!

Aiden Moggridge stepped in between the sticks with both Bobby and Jacob unavailable to make his first appearance for the team, there were also competitive debuts from the bench from Ethan Hill and Niccolo Cavallier. Tyra Aitken also returned to the starting lineup following absence in the first two league matches.

Banbury controlled the game from the first whistle, passing the ball around with fluency and not allowing Kineton to get possession of the ball or build any meaningful attacks.

On 2 minutes, following a long throw into the box, Lukas Wahlen hooked over the bar, the next warning shot arrived just four minutes later, Brooklyn with some lovely skill on the edge of the box to evade his defender before curling an effort inches wide of the post.

Kineton had set up to be difficult to beat, getting plenty of numbers behind the ball. This was limiting Banbury to half chances at this stage. Jack Kimber struck an effort from out side the box on 9 minutes that was comfortably saved, then a minute later Brook had another effort this time his shot was fired into the side netting.

The breakthrough came on 14 minutes. Following a good ball over the top Lukas managed to poke the ball past the keeper, and Tyra slid in to direct the ball into the back of the net 1-0.

The one way traffic continued. Lukas had an effort on goal well saved, Ollie Edmunds had a header from a corner blocked on its way to the goal and on 29 minutes Seb his a stinging effort from 25 yards out that rattled against the crossbar.

Banbury were banging on the door, and the door finally fell down on 30 minutes, Ollie Edmunds launched a long throw into the box, Lukas managed to wriggle past his marker to fire low into the net. 2-0.

The floodgates were now open. Three minutes later Tyra had his second of the game. He done well to win the ball back off the Kineton defence before rounding the keeper and firing into the empty net 3-0.

This allowed the team to make a few changes with Ethan and Niccolo coming on for debuts, and Mick and Lucas also joining the action. The changes didn't disrupt the flow of the game in anyway. The fourth goal arriving on 36 minutes. Probably the pick of the bunch, Brook was fouled on the edge of the area. Lukas stepped up to take the free kick and curled it superbly into the top left corner 4-0.

4 soon became 5 as Lucas Webb drilled a cross shot along the 6 yard box. Niccolo was on hand to score his first goal from the club, guiding it in to the bottom left corner of the net 5-0.

Then on the stroke of half time it was six. A free flowing passing move started by Niccolo, ended with Jacob Hayes picking out Ethan inside the penalty area and he fired the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. 6-0.

Into the second half, Banbury made another few subs with Seb, Jacob and Lennon all making way - and the reshuffle allowed Kineton their first effort of the game. Aiden done well to save a free kick at the near post.

On 47 minutes though it was 7! Jack Kimber did superbly on the left wing before getting to the byeline and cutting back for Lucas Webb to slot home under the keeper 7-0.

There was a bit of a lull in proceedings for a 20 minute spell, where Kineton looked to try and steady the ship, and Banbury seemingly took their foot off the gas. But the 8th goal arrived on 62 minutes. Tyra slid the ball through to Mick Antwi who was marauding down the right wing. He took the ball into the penalty area before smashing it high into the roof of the net for 8-0.

The final goal of the game arrived 7 minutes later, a lovely ball from Lucas Webb cut through the defence for Tyra to run onto, he opened up his body well to side foot into the top corner of the net 9-0.

Although this was the end of the scoring, it wasn't the end of the opportunities. Lennon Ison had no fewer than three guilt edged opportunities to open his account for the club. the first a low effort that cannoned off the post from the edge of the area. Then Tyra put the ball on the plate for him six yards out but the Kineton keeper made an exceptional save down to his right. Finally he had the opportunity from the penalty spot after Lennon himself was hacked down in the box. He stepped up to take the penalty but his low effort was again well saved by the Kineton keeper.

Kineton did register one more effort on goal before full time, but Aiden did well to gather the shot and preserve his clean sheet in his first game for the team.

Banbury bounce back to winning ways in emphatic style - but knowing that there will be tougher tests ahead.
