Banbury United's genesis lies in the Spencer Corset factory works side of the early 1930s.
The factory owners and employees were very supportive of the football club in its early days. The club was known as Banbury Spencer FC until the mid-1960s.
This photograph shows a group of women, all of whom worked at Spencer’s, that decided to enter a float in the 1939 Banbury Hospital Fete, electing to go as the Banbury Spencer football team
At this time thousands would turn out for the annual Banbury Hospital Fete, an important fundraiser for the Hospital in days before the NHS.
