Banbury had much the better of the first ten minutes but at this point Frome worked their way into the game and the half developed into an equal affair.

In the 14th minute an on-target shot from the edge of the penalty area by Ben Griffiths saw Luke Carnell get his head to the effort and deflect it wide for a corner.

In the 35th minute a Frome corner from the right saw Sam Teale’s header from ten yards lack the direction to trouble Jack Harding and it was saved comfortably.

Despite having their fair share of the game, Banbury had failed to trouble the home custodian though they did have the ball in the back of the net in the final minute of the half when a Tom Winters cross from the left was headed home at the far post by Leam Howards though the flag was promptly raised for off-side.

The second half began promisingly and was much more open.

Four minutes into this period Frome should have gone in front when a cross came in from the right and Ryan Bath put the ball over the bar from the edge of the six-yard box.

Three minutes before the hour mark and Banbury went close when Paul Stonehouse cut the ball back from the by-line down the left into the path of Stephane Ngamvoulou whose shot looked bound for the corner of the net before Carl Crabtree did well to save with his feet.

On 63 minutes Harding had to be alert to save a shot from 15 yards by Joe Raynes.

Both teams were now looking positively for a goal and it was now an end-to-end game and very entertaining.

On 78 minutes a Winters corner from the right by Winters was headed home off the post by Luke Carnell from six yards but the referee blew his whistle for holding down of the defender.

On 82 minutes Bath received his marching orders for a second yellow card offence after a foul on Carnell. From the resultant free-kick from the left taken by Jack Harding ten yards inside his own half which was put down the middle, Charlie Wise got on to the end of it and shot home at the far post from six yards.

With Sam Teale now being sent-off for arguing with the referee, Frome now had to play the final eight minutes with just nine men.

Four minutes from time and Banbury sealed the win when a Winters corner from the left was headed home from close range at the far post by Carnell.
