Both players extend their stays in Banbury until the end of the season

The club are delighted to announce both Jack Stevens and Jay Williams have signed contracts through till the end of the season.

21 year old Jack Stevens joined Banbury at the start of October and has been key to the team’s brilliant form this year, scoring 7 goals in 14 league games, he has made 20 appearances in all competitions. Jack’s finest performance so far came against Coalville Town, in which he scored two goals helping seal a huge win for the club.

Here’s what Jack had to say upon signing. “I’m delighted to sign a deal here, It’s a really talented squad heading in the right direction and it’s a place where i can see myself improving as a player and a person, and off the pitch every member of staff has been fantastic so it was an easy decision for me”

Andy Whing had this to say. “We’re absolutely thrilled to get Jack on a contract. I knew what we we’re bringing in when we signed jack and he hasn’t disappointed. He’s been brilliant for us, providing goals, assists and fantastic work rate. Another sign that the club is moving forwards with players committing to the cause”

Jack is a former scholar at Oxford United, progressing to earn a professional contract with them in October 2020. Jack had a short “work experience” spell with Thame United in season 2019/20 which was curtailed due to Covid and then had short loan spells with Conference South sides Hungerford Town and Chippenham Town last season. Jack was released by Oxford at the end of last season and signed for Hayes & Yeading United in August though he did not make an appearance for the Southern League Premier South side.

Former Harrogate Town defender Jay Williams has made a great impression since signing mid-October. He has made 15 appearances in all competitions scoring two goals including the third in our recent 3-2 win over Peterborough Sports.

Jay naturally was pleased after signing his contract. “I’m happy to have signed this contract with the club. This is a great club heading in the right direction from the fans, to the staff and everyone behind the scenes. I feel like this is a special group and I’ve enjoyed my time a lot so far. So to continue to be a part of this is something I couldn’t turn down.”

Andy Whing was similarly pleased, having this to say. “We’re absolutely delighted to tie Jay down to a contract. He has been absolutely outstanding since he’s arrived at the football club. He’s provided a great partnership with Kelvin and is a valuable member of the team”

Previously Jay was with the Coventry City academy at the age of 9 before moving onto the Northampton Town academy four years later, progressing with the Cobblers to complete his scholarship and earn a professional contract in January 2019.

By the time of his signing of a professional contract, Jay had already made his Football League debut for Northampton when coming on as a substitute in their 5-0 win at Macclesfield Town in October 2018. That season would see Jay go on to make a total of 10 Football League appearances.

The following season, 2019/20, would see Jay overlooked by the new management team at Northampton and after two loan spells with Kettering Town he was released at the end of the season without adding to the League appearances he had made the previous season.
After playing for a short spell with Kettering Town last season, Jay joined League 2 side Harrogate Town in January and went on to make 7 Football League appearances for them through to the end of the season, scoring their goal in a 2-1 defeat at Forest Green Rovers in March.

Jay joined our league rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds in August, making 8 Southern League appearances for them.

We are sure supporters will be hugely excited that both players have committed to the club till the end of the season.
