Read the latest update on how you can get involved at Banbury United! Where do you fit into our Club?

First of all, the Club would like to sincerely thank the people of Banbury and indeed the national football community for sharing and responding to our previous volunteer appeals. We’ve had fantastic responses to the three we’ve issued in the past six months and feel somewhat overwhelmed at the talent that has come forward.

Behind-the-scenes is a small army of people – from students and retirees to employees, small business owners and sponsors – doing their bit for our community-owned, volunteer-led Club, with whatever hours they have to spare.

We’re now focussing on bolstering the operations team – we need a Head of Operations and a Fixture Manager to help us become more of a well-oiled machine.

Head of Operations (possible board member position, volunteer)
We’re looking for someone to direct the business areas of bar & clubhouse, ground and facilities, fixture management & matchday operations, and supplier contracts & operational compliance. With the exception of Fixture Manager (see position below) each of these areas has a lead member of staff or volunteer already in place. With a focus on oversight, it is envisaged that this role will consume roughly 6-10 hours per week, comprising remote work and in-person meetings at the Club. Attendance at every home match is not essential, but an advanced working knowledge of the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium and its mostly volunteer workforce will need to be acquired. This is a possible board position. Please see our organisational chart below to see how the role fits into the Club.

Fixture manager (volunteer)
Almost everyone at the Club is involved in “putting on a show” on matchday in some way. The role of the Fixture Manager is to co-ordinate the diverse activities involved – both planned and evolving during the match. Effectively, you’ll be “the knowledge” on matchdays.

With a high level of support provided, you’ll communicate key information internally such as expected crowd size and other special arrangements before each match, ensuring each area is equipped to deliver its part. You’ll be the go-to support person for our teams in ticketing, commercial and sponsorship, safety and security, and communications. Specific tasks include liaising with our suppliers e.g. catering, security, coach bookings and parking; leading payments & cash handling; managing pitch inspections and match cancellations; as well as handling match-related FA correspondence.

Attendance at almost all home matchdays is expected. It is anticipated that the role will involve 3-5 hours’ work per week outside Saturday and Tuesday night match events. You can work from home or come down to the club where there is a growing number of volunteers hot-desking these days.

Perhaps you work, or have an aspiration to work, in event management. Perhaps you’re keen to get under the skin of sporting events and touch all the different business areas while having a lot of fun. It’s a job that could be done together with a friend.

Board director vacancies

We currently have two vacant board member positions. Dan Kelly – who supported the club throughout the summer and autumn of 2023, setting up our new commercial team, which is now flying – has decided not to remain on the board. We’re open to conversations with people from all backgrounds who have something to offer Banbury United. You may not have lots of hours to spend working in the club, but perhaps you’ve worked in football management at National League level or above, or you have the contact networks and know-how to take us to the next step, commercially.

Below is a chart showing how your Club is structured. Within each area is a long list of volunteers. Here is your regular reminder that with the exception of our men’s first team, some coaches, bar staff, security and cleaning, everyone working at Banbury United, from the very top to the bottom, is a volunteer.

If you think any of these roles might be you, please contact Claire Dumbreck via clairedumbreck@banburyunitedfc.co.uk to start a conversation.

Benefits: finding your flock and volunteering as part of team of like-minded people; fun times!; free entry to home matches; gaining experience for your CV and future job prospects.
