Banbury United is delighted to announce the signing of defender Nico Jones, ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Formerly of Fulham and Oxford United’s academies, Jones spent time out on loan whilst at the U’s, with Oxford City and Havant & Waterlooville.
Jones made three League One appearances for United, with eight senior apppearances in total, and became Oxford’s youngest ever captain at the age of 17 in an EFL Trophy victory over Crawley Town, back in 2019.
The former Republic of Ireland U19 international then joined Brentford in 2021, playing a regular part in their B team.
A spell at Burgess Hill Town in the second half of last season followed, and Jones will now join The Puritans in the new campaign.
Jones said: "It feels like a really good match between myself and Banbury United. Both sides have been doing due diligence on each other - I've been speaking to a lot of ex-players that I know and Simon has been in touch with the guys at Brentford to find out if I'm the right fit for the team.
"I can't wait to get started at our first team training on Saturday."
Welcome to Banbury United, Nico!
