Young Striker joins on loan from Oxford United.

We are pleased to confirm the loan signing of Slavi Spasov from Oxford United.

The 20 year-old Bulgarian born striker moved to the UK at the age of 12. He is a product of the Oxford United academy, progressing to be awarded his first professional contract on his 17th birthday in December 2018.

He had at that point already made his senior debut for Oxford United in an EFL Trophy game at the Kassam against Fulham U21s in September of that year, coming on as a substitute and scoring from the penalty spot, becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer at the age of just 16 years and 226 days. Three months later, Slavi would make his Football League debut for Oxford when coming on as a substitute in a home League One game against Bristol Rovers.

Season 2020/21 saw Slavi have a lengthy on loan spell with National League side Woking where he made 20 appearances and scored three goals before a serious knee injury, that required surgery, ended his season early. Slavi has since worked his way back to playing football and spent the last couple of months of last season on loan to North Leigh, making five appearances and scoring once.

Despite his injury problems and not making a senior appearance for Oxford United since season 2019/20 up to the end of last season, Oxford United showed their faith in the striker by awarding him a contract extension this past summer.

Slavi has been used as a substitute six times in senior games for Oxford United this season, three in the Football League and three in cup competitions.

We welcome Slavi who will be available for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Bracknell.
