Yonis Farah, born in London in September 1999, is a 23-year-old left back who was previously with Swedish side Eskilstuna City. Farah started his career at Southend United as an academy player training with ex-premier league stars Anton Ferdinand and Marc-Antoine Fortune. Yonis was released in May 2018 and showed his resilience by leaving his home and venturing to Norway to join Trysil FK.
After impressing in Scandinavia with 19 appearances and one goal, Farah earned the accolade of representing his country for the first time. On September 5th 2019, Farah made his debut for Somalia in a 1–0 win against Zimbabwe, marking Somalia's first ever FIFA World Cup qualification victory. Since his first cap for the east African country, Yonis has gone on to represent them seven times, featuring in the oldest African international tournament, the CECAFA Cup, three times.
After a season with Trysil FK he moved to fellow Swedish team, Ytterhogdals, making his debut on June 28th 2020 against Pitea in an entertaining 3-2 defeat. Operating as a left-sided midfielder and left back, Ytterhogdals utilised Farah’s adaptability and he went on to make 12 appearances and scored the sole goal for the club that season.
Following his year-long stay at Ytterhogdals, Farah moved the mere five-hour journey south across Sweden to division two side, Eskilstuna City. He featured 11 times for the club in the league last season before moving to England to trial for the Puritans. During his games for Banbury, he has shown an abundance of speed, energy and endurance making pre-season look a breeze, emulating the long-distance qualities of his cousin: four time gold medallist, Mo Farah.
