Another three points for Banbury United’s Women’s team, battling throughout to overcome a spirited Abingdon United Development side this afternoon at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium.
Banbury went behind to a third minute penalty but fought back to lead 2-1 at the interval with goals from Sophie McCrystal and Zara Dodd. It could have been a bigger margin at the interval for Zoe Pugh twice hit the woodwork.
Abingdon had much the better of the play in the second half but struggled to find a way past an inspired display from Banbury goalkeeper Katie Wise. Rather against the run of play Zoe Pugh made it 3-1 to Banbury on the hour mark. Abingdon pulled it back to 3-2 with ten minutes to go and pushed forward looking for the equaliser but Banbury under pressure defended well and with the away side short on numbers at the back Kira Rogers scored a fourth for Banbury three minutes into stoppage time to make it 4-2.
That’s three consecutive league wins for Banbury and five consecutive wins in all competitions
Video shows Kira Rogers scoring the late goal which confirmed the three points for Banbury. Video highlights of game to follow in due course.
